Royal Welsh Show: RE-think welcomes new MPs to its stand

Date:  26/07/2024

Embargo: none

RE-think’s stand at the Royal Welsh Show in Llanelwedd this week attracted a wide range of visitors wanting to discuss plans for numerous large-scale energy parks and power lines in Mid Wales.  They included concerned landowners and residents, politicians, technical experts and people who just wanted to know more about Bute Energy’s massive proposals.

RE-think was particularly pleased to welcome to the stand two new local MPs, David Chadwick (Liberal Democrat, Brecon, Radnor and Cwm Tawe) and Ann Davies (Plaid Cymru, Caerfyrddin.)

Jenny Chryss, Campaign Lead for RE-think said afterwards: “It was great to have such early engagement with our two new Westminster politicians, and we are grateful to both of them for visiting our stand.

“We also congratulate our own Mid and West Wales MS, Eluned Morgan on her election unopposed as leader of Welsh Labour.  We wish her well as she prepares to be confirmed as First Minister next month.  She has already made clear her desire to work with the people of Wales.  We hope that this will include those living in rural communities vulnerable to being overwhelmed by widescale wind farm schemes plus accompanying pylon lines and other infrastructure.”

Ms Chryss paid tribute to the former MP for Brecon and Radnor Fay Jones who, she said, had worked hard along with her fellow Conservative, James Evans MS to support the many communities fighting the proposed developments.

Many members of the public who visited the stand expressed great concern about Bute Energy’s proposals and their potentially devastating effect on the landscape, the environment, wildlife, tourism and livelihoods.

In general RE-think felt that the discussions were on a deeper level than last year, when the enormous scale of what was confronting Mid Wales was not entirely understood.

A number of professional people with relevant technical knowledge also visited the stand, many to offer their help, support and expertise for which, again, RE-think is extremely grateful.
