Comments: Billed as Bute’s flagship site the proposed Nant Mithill Energy Park covers over 4,500 acres of the historic Radnor Forest. Most of the area is actually a treeless ancient hunting ground, reputed to be the sleeping place of the last Welsh Dragon, the symbol of the Welsh Government. About 80 percent of the proposed site lies outside of the Welsh Government's designated area for wind and solar installations. The Radnor Forest also contains a Special Area of Conservation for the River Wye catchment area, many historic landscape features, 2 SSSIs and some 25 Public Rights of Way enjoyed by the huge number of outdoor enthusiasts who regularly visit the area to enjoy the tranquility and the very diverse flora and fauna.

Note - the turbines shown in the foreground of the picture taken from Gilwern hill are those of the Hendy wind farm and are approximately half the height of the proposed turbines for Nant Mithil. Hendy wind farm was approved 5 years ago by the Welsh government despite objections by the Powys planning authority and PEDW. It has never produced any electricity as the developers, who were associated with the principals of Bute Energy at the time, failed to secure a grid connection.
